Office Upfit

CLIENT. Confidential
ROLE. Lead designer & Project Architect for CDM Smith
SCOPE. $20M | 150,000 SF tenant upfit

This office upfit consists of 7-stories of interior build-out within a newly constructed shell building for over 1000 primarily technology focused employees in an open office configuration.

The project scope included design research, space programming, interior architecture, and furniture selection. I assisted the client with early design research summarizing the latest science behind the effect of the office environment on employee wellbeing and productivity. Additionally, the design team participated in a series of employee interviews with each department to tailor the environment to their specific needs. This user research led to a flexible open office scheme with a variety of meeting, collaboration, and unique break spaces, and a focus on utilizing biophillic elements and natural materials throughout to support employee health and wellbeing.

The design features a 3-story vegetated wall and interconnecting stair to encourage use of stairs vs elevators and to promote the intermixing of teams. Numerous operable glass markerboard partitions segment the open office areas and provide meeting and break-out space. On the central floor, a training center and main break room can be converted into a 300-person meeting hall.

Construction was completed in 2019.
