Ping Tom Memorial Park Fieldhouse is the City of Chicago's first true design-build project, designed and built by Wight & Company. Located in Chicago's Chinatown neighborhood, the 80,000 GSF LEED Platinum facility provides a gymnasium, natatorium, and variety of other fitness and recreational spaces for public use.

My role on this project was as a design team member on the proposal that won the project, with some continued involvement through design development particularly in the selection of interior materials. Materials for this public space were carefully selected for their durability and environmental impact, opting for recylced or recyclable/renewable materials (such as recycled rubber, cork, and FSC woods) and eliminating harmful chemicals (like formaldehyde, phthalates, or polyvinyl chloride which are commonly used in building materials) for improved indoor air quality and occupant health. Other sustainable strategies for the building included efficient heating and cooling, a rainwater harvesting system, and diversion of construction waste from landfills.

Construction was completed 2014.
